All things festive with Green Portfolio

Reading Time: 5 minutes

It’s almost Diwali! Every place is lit with the festive decorations. We are decked up too and so, this week I am talking about all things festive.

Muhurat Trading

We Indians love our traditions. We are known for our cultural values and we are very proud of it. Call us superstitious or just religious, but be it deciding the date for a wedding or inaugurating a new home, we have a Muhurat for everything. And this is not limited to only individuals. Will you be surprised if I tell you that this tradition is followed by Indian stock markets too?

Diwali marks the beginning of a new Hindu Year aligning with the Vikram Samvat Lunar calendar. It is often referred to as Samvat. This year, we are celebrating Samvat 2080 with our Diwali Special Samvat Smallcases, but before talking about that, let’s see what Muhurat Trading is all about. There is something called the Muhurat Trading Session. It’s a specially organized one-hour session believed to bring wealth and prosperity.

Therefore, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) are all geared up for Muhurat Trading this Diwali. The session will take place on the propitious occasion of Deepawali, November 12 between 6 PM and 7:15 PM, marking the beginning of Samvat 2080.

Markets Love to Celebrate, Always

Let’s rewind the tape a little bit. If you’re a new investor and are speculating how markets performed during the past Muhurat Trading Sessions, then I have got your back. Since 2008, i.e., in almost 15 years, 12 sessions ended in green. We saw indexes falling by a negligible value only in 3 years. In fact, in 2022, indices gained almost 0.88% and in 2021 they rose by almost half a percent.
